About us

We have been making, sharing and presenting innovative and transformative contemporary dance shows, projects, workshops and summer schools that are forward looking, inclusive and adventurous since 2014.

We were formed by choreographer and dancer Gwyn Emberton, who is now the Artistic Director, and Kate Perridge our Executive Producer. Originally known as Gwyn Emberton Dance, we change our name to Jones the Dance as we became much more than a dance company of Gwyn’s own work. The dance we do has always been a place to build a community, where dancers can expand their creative horizons, young people can explore and grow and for audiences to experience the highest quality dance productions locally.

With this, we aim to challenge who gets to experience dance and who gets to make it. We are particularly focused on those who have been underrepresented or served by contemporary dance and we want them to help us shape, share and be the future of dance in Wales; bringing dance to unexpected places.

Since we started, we have delivered several mid-scale productions, toured nationally and internationally, in both rural and main urban areas and in non-traditional and arts venues alike. We have initiated youth dance programmes for young people who are Deaf or rurally isolated, where there are no other opportunities for these young people to dance and we regularly collaborate in international projects with companies and artists from across Europe and beyond, bringing the most contemporary of international contemporary dance practices to Wales.

None of what we do is achieved without the many freelance dancers, producers, teachers, creatives and technical staff we work with and with the support of National Lottery funding, Arts Council of Wales, Welsh Government, small charitable giving, Creative Europe and other international funders.
